Letter to the Editor: Barney Frank Responds

I submitted this letter to my local paper this morning:

TO THE EDITOR:

I admit Rep. Barney Frank’s remarks may have been over-the-top (News-Register, August 19). However, the Nazi references made by the woman questioner showed a remarkable insensitivity. Rep. Frank is both a Jew and a gay man. In the 1930s and 40s, Jews and gay men were rounded up by the Nazis. They were heinously slaughtered and tortured and starved to death in grisly abhorrent ways. The woman questioner asked a man whose people--both gay and Jew--were subjected to evil.

There are no “death panels” in the health reform bill and never were. It is time for the Nazi talk to stop.
